University students take part in National Volunteer Week

The University of Lincoln is taking part in Volunteering Week, which starts Monday 20th February.

Students have signed up for various activities, including dog walking at the Order of Saint John Care Trust, animal rehabilitation at the Weirfield wildlife hospital, as well knitting hats for premature babies and gardening sessions.

The week is organised by Volunteer England, an independent charity promoting and running volunteer work. Emily Marshall, a Volunteer Support worker at the university said:

“The week is used to encourage students to do lots more volunteering and to be out in the community contributing”

“Our students already do lots of volunteering at the moment; they’re quite passionate in terms of gaining valuable work based skills” “All the activities are taster sessions, encouraging students to have a snapshot idea of what volunteering involves. After that we can hopefully get them doing more long term volunteering.

“Anyone who wants to get involved can drop in and speak to us at volunteering department at the Students Union, or email us at volunteer@lincolnsu.com” The week is running across the entire country from February 20 to 24.
